About MixUp

The public debate is one of the most important elements of a healthy democracy.

However, teachers across Europe find it challenging to incorporate civic education in class, in particular the facilitation of healthy discussions on societal themes. not engaging and motivating enough.

That is why, in a cooperation with multiple partners, we developed MixUp, a new platform for dialogue between European students on important topics.

MixUp is an adaption of Civinc’s chat-application that involves different perspectives on important topics.

How it works

Teachers can subscribe to an upcoming MixUp session with the form below.

1. There are at least four sessions every year, each revolving around a specific theme that is relevant across Europe. Teachers from vocational schools in Italy, Romania, Portugal and The Netherlands can register their clas(ses) for a session

2. More information on the session, the appropriate preparation and the details of the platform are send to the teacher, as well as reminders one week before the session

3. On the given date and time, students from participating classes go online to the MixUp app

4. There, they use the code provided by us, select the country they’re from and answer a series of statements on the topic

5. Then all students are matched real-time in anonymous, one-on-one chats with peers who have a different opinion

6. In these chats, students can talk freely, switch statements and partners to create a rich exchange!

Sustainability Day (Oct 25)

On this day, we raise awareness towards the importance of Sustainability, and we also share the insights that we have with one another with the common goal of building a well-educated, responsible community

“Sustainable” translates to “to be maintained for a very long time”, which is exactly our goal, to be able to take care of the planet forever. In order to reach this goal, some spend time during their day teaching colleagues about what is recyclable in their office and what is not.

We take another approach: on Sustainability Day we facilitate meaningful conversations between European students on one of the most important themes of their, and our, lifetime.

International Education Day (Jan 24)

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.

Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind.

But what differences are there among students in Europe? And how are they perceiving the inclusiveness and quality of their education? That is the topic of conversation for this MixUp session.

International Day against Racial Discrimination (Mar 21)

The 2023 theme of the International Day focuses on the urgency of combatting racism and racial discrimination, 75 years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

Seventy-five years ago, for the first time, the international community agreed on a set of common values and acknowledged that rights are inherent to every single human being and not granted by the State. These rights are enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a blueprint for international human rights norms.

During this MixUp session students will discuss their views on racial discrimination and the approach that should be taken by governments and education institutions.

International Peace Day (May 16)

Living together in peace is all about accepting differences and having the ability to listen to, recognize, respect and appreciate others, as well as living in a peaceful and united way.

The Day invites countries to further promote reconciliation to help to ensure peace and sustainable development, including by working with communities, faith leaders and other relevant actors, through reconciliatory measures and acts of service and by encouraging forgiveness and compassion among individuals.

For students, or young Europeans in general, this is the perfect opportunity to have a conversation with peers about what peace means, or should mean, to them. MixUp facilitates this on May 16th !
